Back From Space

Flexible Space Returns

The BFS (Back From Space) project aims to provide a flexible and reliable return capability for experiments or products in orbit. Unlike existing solutions, the BFS kit is designed to meet the specific needs of a payload, particularly regarding the re-entry date. Current re-entry capsules only descend when their cargo space is fully loaded, approximately once every six months. In contrast, the BFS can transport smaller payloads, allowing it to depart as soon as a client needs to bring something back to Earth.

Key Milestones

In 2022, e.NOVA secured funding from France’s ‘Plan de Relance’, enabling the development of our F-TPS (Flexible Thermal Protection System). The F-TPS underwent rigorous aerothermal wind testing by CNRS and thermal analysis by R.Tech. e.NOVA also perfected folding and sewing techniques for the F-TPS. By 2023, e.NOVA joined the BIC ESA family, highlighting our growth and commitment to aerospace innovation.

Thermal protection system (tps)

Dome: The top part designed to withstand extreme conditions during re-entry.
F-TPS: Front thermal protection for high-temperature resistance.
P/L TPS: Protects the payload, ensuring scientific experiments remain intact.

Kinetic System (KIN)

Frame, Struts: Provide structural integrity and stability.

RIBS : We are still studying which solution would be the best between deployable RIBS, inflatable RIBS and rigid RIBS.

Electronic Unit (EU)

Sensors: Measure pressure, temperature, acceleration, and orientation (I.M.U).
GPS: Provides tracking and navigation.
Satellite Comm Beacon: Ensures data transmission and location

Structure Modules

P/L (Payload Module): Contains scientific experiments and equipment.
P/F (Platform Module): Supports the main structure and systems.
P/M (Propulsion Module): Equipped with engines for navigation and control.
